An open letter to all my friends I am failing to keep in touch with…

Dear buddies, Well, first of all I know I am a terrible person - for not chatting on Whatsapp groups or just plainly replying to your text messages, or not calling you just to ask how your life has been… A big sorry for all of that! But for me ‘Writing triggers writing’. Today morning, I received this heartfelt note and dark chocolate bar from a very dear friend, which made me introspect my behaviour. Well, this isn’t an apology letter or an explanation for my behaviour – because I know my friends will never expect that. It is just something I always want to tell and just fail at conveying it. Well, I can now be successfully categorized into the group of ‘non-socials’ – google it and you’ll be like hell yeah! I am not much of a chatting kind of a person – and the reasons are…I enjoy reading what others are writing, I am too lazy to type the message and I know just a single emoticon would add no value to message. Hence no message. I really lack the social skills -  wh...

9 words that I totally loved and so will you

Words will never stop fascinating me. And it is time that I create another list of those beautiful, ineffable words that we are are struggling to describe or just can't pin it down. So, without much ado. here is a list of 9 words that I totally loved and so will you. Boketto - the act of staring at nothing All of us have often experienced this. We just stare and nothing, completely zone out..it's not even daydreaming. This Japanese word is exactly what you need to describe your meaningless gazing. Serein - light rain that falls from clear sky during sunset or early hours of night Who doesn't love rains? Well, many don't! But as serene this French word is, you just can't hate that drizzle. Balter - to dance artlessly without any grace or skill just for enjoyment Basically, it is a word for "Dance like nobody is watching". Clinomania - excessive desire to stay in bed Yes! It is something we all feel on all the weekends! Scripturient - having co...

Some Lessons to Life

Introspecting your life on Sundays is the worst possible idea! Lying on the bed at 10:00 am, you are all swamped in these mixed feelings where you are completely unsure whether to worry about the upcoming week or to actually get out of the bed and 'enjoy' this 'weekend'. And that's when it strikes you, nobody really told you, you have actually grown up. As a kid, I remember dreaming, how exciting life was going to be when I grow up. Damn right?! We all have done that. Well, but completely unaware of the fact that growing up just didn't mean freedom, late in-times, lots of shopping...basically chilling! No! Growing up meant cleaning stuff no your own, groceries, paying bills...basically micro-managing...failing at it and then worrying. With all these thoughts trying to make me nauseatic, I decided to get out of the bed and make myself a cup of tea. I thought sitting by the window...enjoying the tea in a nice comfy weather was certainly going to cheer me up....

Thank You Mommy

This Mother's day I decided to go the other way. Instead of posting a photo on social media or writing statuses about Mother's day, here’s a heartfelt thank you note for my mommy and you will relate to it too. Thank you for letting me be on my own. Thank you for always being on my side even if I have grown. Thank you for teaching me to own up for my decisions be it good and bad. Thank you for cheering me when I was grumpy and sad. Thank you for being that great source of solace. Thank you for making me understand “You can never be bored at home, it’s your own place”. Thank you for all the liberty and freedom. Thank you for bearing up with my random tantrums. Thank you for all those little and big things you taught. A big Thank you for everything, whether I have ever said it or not!

Writing about writing

Well, sometimes there is this uncertain yearning to do something and you don’t even know what. Exactly, that the feeling I have now. So I just decided to write it down. But the next question was...what am I going to write about? Yes, this is what Blogger’s Block feels like! So, instead of hunting for topics online or trying to research stuff, I decided to spontaneously write about one of my favorite things…writing. Mark Twain has said, “Writing is easy. All you have to do is cross off the wrong words.”  Well, I’ll say it is not that easy. Before crossing off the wrong words, you have got to make sure you have put up some really right words. And once written, then are immortal. Scratching, erasing or backspacing is not going to make it disappear. In today’s world you have full freedom to be opinionated and when you have full access to social media and forums, where you can talk and express, you really have got be careful of what and how you are writing. It is easier when you wr...

X is the new Y

Grey is the new black. Shortcut is the new hack. Small talk is the new deep. A fake smile is the new weep. Pale is the new tan. ‘You really can’t’ is the new can. Small is the new big. Still is the new jig. 30 is the new 40. ‘I’ is the new we. Staying in is the new going out. Certainty is the new doubt. Random is the new order. Lost is the new wander. Is Snowclone the new cliché? Whatever! Black is always black and grey is grey!!

9 words I added to my vocabulary immediately

Listicles are fun! And now because of their structured and precise format they have been popular. So here’s my attempt to write a listicle about none other than my favorite topic ‘words’. Recently I came across these sites where they discuss uncommon, linguistically beautiful words. These foreign/English originating words define the most bewildering or unusual emotions. There are hundreds of such words. Here is a listicle of 9 such words that are my favourite and the ones I added to my vocabulary immediately. 1.        Finifugal: Hating endings. When you are scared to end something…a story, a movie,  a break up maybe. Then you are finifugal! 2.        Hiraeth: Homesickness for a place where you can’t return. This is a Welsh word, with a meaning that ultimately brings out the sorrow. Longing to go to one’s homeland or sometimes for places you have not been to, and then you feel hiraeth. It’s certainly an apt m...

SHERLOCKED

Image
After watching the Sherlock’s Season 4: The Final Problem, I was so awestruck that it took me a day to come back to my senses and write. The season finale received mixed reviews overall, the episode, for me personally took me down to the memory lane…when I first started reading Sherlock Holmes. Not much of a reader, but mysteries always fascinated me. Initially borrowing books from school library…I one day knew I had to own that Sherlock Holmes collection. And so finally convinced my parents to buy me the almost 1200 paged “Sherlock Holmes”. Sir Arthur Canon Doyle has indeed created a masterpiece here, giving us a profound high functioning sociopath. This consulting detective with his excellent observation skills, logical reasoning, deductions and forensic science expertise made every single case worth it. 221B Baker Street is like an address to heaven for a Sherlock fan. They say film or TV series adaption of a book is never worth it. But be it the book, movie or TV serie...
